Binaural Beats Frequency Guide
Your brain operates at different frequencies depending on your mental state. Binaural beats use two slightly different tones — one in each ear — to guide your brainwaves toward a target frequency through a process called neural entrainment.
How Binaural Beats Work
The science of neural entrainment
Two Tones
A slightly different frequency plays in each ear. For example, 195 Hz in the left ear and 205 Hz in the right.
Phantom Beat
Your brain perceives a “phantom beat” at the difference between the two frequencies — in this case, 10 Hz (alpha).
Entrainment
Your brainwaves gradually synchronise to match this frequency, shifting your mental state toward relaxation, focus, or sleep.
Stereo headphones are required. Binaural beats only work when each ear receives a different tone. Speakers mix the channels and eliminate the effect.
The Five Frequency Bands
Brainwaves are categorised into five bands, from the slowest (delta) to the fastest (gamma). Each band corresponds to a different mental state.
Delta Waves
Deep sleep, recovery, and healing. The slowest brainwaves, dominant during dreamless sleep and deep restorative states.

Meditation, creativity, and deep relaxation. Active during REM sleep, hypnagogic states, and profound meditation.

Alpha Waves
Relaxed awareness, stress relief, and calm focus. The brain's natural idle state — alert but not anxious.

Active thinking, concentration, and problem-solving. Dominant during focused mental work and engaged conversation.

Peak cognition, flow states, and heightened perception. Associated with moments of insight and cross-brain synchronisation.

Match Your Goal
- Can't sleep? → Delta (1-4 Hz)
- Need to meditate? → Theta (4-8 Hz)
- Feeling stressed? → Alpha (8-13 Hz)
- Need to study? → Beta (13-30 Hz)
- Want peak flow? → Gamma (30-50 Hz)
Session Length
- Quick reset (10 min): Alpha calming
- Focus session (20-30 min): Beta or SMR
- Deep meditation (25-30 min): Theta
- Sleep induction (30 min): Delta
- Extended practice: Use custom duration or infinite mode
Multi-Phase Sessions
Our sessions don't hold a single frequency — they guide your brainwaves through carefully designed arcs. A sleep session might start in relaxed alpha, descend through theta, and settle into deep delta. This mimics the brain's natural sleep onset process.
Ambient Pairing
Layer ambient soundscapes over the binaural tones for a more immersive experience. Brown noise pairs well with focus sessions, rain with relaxation, ocean with meditation. Adjust the balance with independent volume controls.
Safety Information
Important for all users
Epilepsy: If you have epilepsy or a history of seizures, consult your doctor before using binaural beats. Auditory entrainment can affect neural activity.
Driving: Never listen while driving or operating machinery. Binaural beats are designed to alter your mental state and may cause drowsiness.
Volume: Keep volume at a comfortable level. The binaural effect works at low volume — louder is not more effective.
Not medical treatment: Binaural beats are a wellness tool and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition.
